PROCEDURAL INFORMATION

The ministerial and office staff of the Chicago Temple, First United Methodist Church is ready and willing to guide and assist you in making your marriage a truly worshipful and memorable occasion.
Certain policies have been established to accomplish that purpose and to assist the bride and groom and families in planning the wedding ceremony.
WEDDING COORDINATOR
Carol Emmons, Lay Ministry Coordinator, is the person who coordinates weddings at The Temple. When calling the church with questions regarding your wedding, as it pertains to the church and service, please ask to speak with her. Her number is 312-236-4548, extension 115.
OFFICIATING MINISTERS
After your request for a wedding has been submitted, one of the four ministers on staff will be assigned the wedding as availability permits. The policies of this church stipulates that at least one minister of the Chicago Temple will officiate at all weddings. If a couple desires to include another clergy person to assist in the ceremony, the request should be made to the officiating minister at the first counseling session. It is then the officiating ministers prerogative to extend an invitation to the visiting clergy to assist at the wedding.
MARRIAGE LICENSE
The marriage license must be obtained within the county where the wedding is being performed (Cook County) and must be purchased at least 3 days prior to the wedding. The license must be in the officiating minister’s possession before the ceremony and preferably should be given to he/she the day of the rehearsal. It is the responsibility of the minister to file the completed license with the county following the wedding. Official copies of the license for legal purposes must be obtained from the county where the license was purchased and filed.
FEE STRUCTURE
Fees are structured based on the size of facility used and whether couple or families are members of The Chicago Temple First United Methodist Church. The fee quoted includes organist and clergy and coordinator fees. See chart below.
A deposit of one-half the total fee must be received in the office before the requested date can be officially put on the church calendar and a clergy is officially assigned. If for any reason the couple cancels only one-half of the deposit will be refunded.

MUSIC FOR THE WEDDING
Music is an important part of the wedding ceremony and should be in keeping with the traditions of the church. Only the appointed church organist may play the organ, piano or harpsichord for weddings. After your wedding has been scheduled and deposit made contact Erik Nussbaum, Director of Music, at 312-236-4548, extension 121. He will help arrange a meeting with the organists and help you arrange for soloists and/or instrumentalists, if needed. If your wedding is being held in The Sky Chapel, the instrument used in addition to, or in lieu of, the chapel piano should be small, such as a flute, lute, guitar, etc.
