Taize Services Offer Opportunities to Find “Peace of Heart”
For the last few decades thousands of Christians and seekers in all parts of the world have experienced the presence of God in fresh and replenishing ways through the contemplative worship services that have grown out of the Protestant monastic community in Taize, France.
Now the Temple is offering a 45-minute Taize service at 6:30 p.m. on the first Friday of every month in Dixon Chapel. In the softly candlelit chapel, worshippers will have opportunities to experience the presence of God through meditative music, Scripture readings and moments of silence and reflection.
The Taize community was founded in 1940 by a man who came to be known as Brother Roger, a native of Switzerland who during the early years of World War II offered political shelter for refugees in the small village of Taize in France. Since then, the monastic center has been a spiritual magnet that has attracted pilgrims, including massive numbers of young people, from across the world.
In the preface to his book, “Peace of Heart in All Things”, Brother Roger says that Taize worship is designed “for those who aspire to maintain peace of heart in all things, living in joy, simplicity and mercy.”
The
sanctuary is open for prayer and meditation daily from 7 a.m. to
9 p.m.
"Come
and see…"
